Roads around the resorts and large islands of the Bahamas are of a good standard and are well-maintained. Roads on smaller islands may well be dirt paths or simply non-existent. The larger islands are served by buses which run regularly and stop off at all major destinations – smaller islands do not have bus links. Taxis are widespread, even on small islands, and provide reliable and affordable (government-controlled pricing) transport to anywhere they can go. Passengers can travel to the Out Islands using either regular passenger boats or the Nassau mail boat, which travels several times a week. Travel by boat is cheap, leisurely and a great way to see the beautiful islands – it’s also the only way to see most of them! Internal flights can be chartered, but can prove costly. They can provide wonderful sights from above, however.
