The currency of the Bahamas is the Bahamian Dollar, with one Dollar equalling 100 cents. Notes come in denominations of B$100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 3 and 1, as well as 50 cents. Coins are in denominations of 25, 15, 10, 5 and 1 cents. The value of the Bahamian Dollar is tied to that of the US Dollar, and the US$ is accepted as currency throughout the country. Money can only be exchanged easily at banks, bureau de changes and hotels. Traveller’s cheques are accepted widely, though to avoid additional conversion charges they should be in US Dollars. ATMs are widespread on larger islands and casinos, and major international credit and debit cards are accepted. Import of foreign currency requires special permission from the Central Bank of the Bahamas, and export is limited to B$70. Business: General banking hours in most areas are from 0930 to 1500 Mondays to Thursdays, and from 0930 to 1700 on Fridays. Shopping hours are generally from 0900 to 1700, Mondays to Fridays. General politeness and formality should be observed in business meetings, though the Bahamian way of life is generally leisurely. Hotels, restaurants and taxis are usually tipped around 15 percent, though some bills do include service charges. Bellboys are usually tipped B$1 per bag carried.
